At least 5 people killed in Highlands County bank shooting.

Highlands County, Fla. — Police say at least five people where killed in a shooting at a SunTrust bank in Sebring Wednesday.

In a news conference with Governor Ron DeSantis, Highlands County Sheriff Paul Blackman said a man called 911 at 12:37 p.m. and said: "I have shot five people." Three minutes later, deputies arrived and established a perimeter. The county SWAT team later entered the building, where a suspect had barricaded himself inside. Crisis negotiators, dispatchers, and SWAT members persuaded the suspect to surrender.

Deputies identified the suspect as 21-year-old Zephan Xaver from Sebring.

Sebring Police Chief Karl Hoglund said, "After an assessment to the scene, we are sorry to learn that we have at least five victims, people that were senselessly murdered as a result of his act in this bank." The names of the victims have not been released. Deputies said they are still investigating Xaver's motives.

Governor Ron DeSantis said the FBI and FDLE are also now investigating and another news conference would be held at 11 a.m Thursday.
