South Florida — Green iguana’s have received a lot of attention this summer.
Earlier this month, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission encouraged homeowners to kill the invasive species “whenever possible.”
A news release said people should exterminate the large green lizards on their properties, as well as on 22 public lands areas across South Florida.
It didn't say just how civilians should try to do that.
I was told one of my neighbors shot 16 of them with a pellet gun before someone called the Police. He was throwing their bodies in our pond. 🤢

Now, they are taking a step back, instead asking homeowners who are not capable of safely and humanely removing iguanas from their property should seek assistance from professionals.
"This is not the 'wild west." FWC Commissioner Rodney Barreto said in a statement.
“Unfortunately, the message has been conveyed that we are asking the public to just go out there and shoot them up. “ Barreto said.
The statement said, “Green iguanas are an invasive species in Florida and are not native to our state. They can cause considerable damage to infrastructure, including seawalls and sidewalks”
