ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orlando Police Department saluted two of their officers for buying a student a bike helmet.
A few days before Halloween, School Resource Officer Erin Lawler said she noticed a new student riding a bike without a helmet.
“I want him to obviously be safe getting to and from school,” Lawler said.
Lawler reached out to retired CSO Wendy Moore who’s known as the “bike lady.” Moore told her about a program the school has where officers can issue a light “citation” that allows for an officer to later fit the child with a helmet.
“He was able to get a helmet fitted for him and take it home as well,” Lawler said. “He was so excited.”
Orlando Police sent out a tweet sowing Lawler fitting the student with the helmet.
This student was riding his bike to school but had no helmet. School Resource Officer Lawler called former CSO Moore out of retirement, told her what the student needed and she fitted a free helmet for him. Ofc. Lawler and CSO Moore, we salute you for going above and beyond! pic.twitter.com/L7pq3npzVn
