Local beaches were packed as COVID-19 scare sends folks outside

Brevard County,Fla. — Parking spots were scarce all along Highway A1A in Brevard County as visitors flocked to the beach on a beautiful and sunny Sunday.

You could hardly guess there was a state of emergency in place, unless it was for more sunscreen.

The beaches of Brevard County were bustling with activity as folks headed outside to escape COVID-19 or the coronavirus.

One visitor told News 96.5 they were there to “stay in the open air and keep ourselves busy, and we figured open air activity is better than something closed in.”

A local resident from Palm Bay said he came out to Melbourne Beach for the nice weather but was surprised to see how busy it was saying it “was busier than normal.”

Still he said people were doing their social distancing,  “Somewhat!”

Further South, Sebastian Inlet was bustling with swimmers, boaters and fishermen.
