Man dressed as Superman attacks own car in street

A man dressed as Superman caused havoc on one of Melbourne's busiest streets when he stopped his SUV in the middle of the road and began to attack it.

Using a pole, the man began to strike the car, then shoved the pole through the windshield causing it to crack.

"He wasn't actually speaking or anything else, he was just listening to music, in the middle of the road," one witness said.

Police were called as traffic began to back up in the area, unable to move around the attacking costumed man.

"With the assistance of a clinician, it was determined he was in need of medical assistance," a  police spokeswoman said.

She added, "the man has been taken by police to the Alfred Hospital for assessment."

His shattered SUV was later towed away.
