Man accidentally blows up car trying to kill bedbugs

A man in Long Island, New York trying to kill bedbugs that had infested his rental car nearly killed himself after his car blew up!

The New York Daily News reports that Scott Kemery was sitting in the vehicle on Tuesday outside an Eastport supermarket when he  dumped a bottle of rubbing alcohol in the backseat of the car in an effort to try and kill a colony of bedbugs that took up home there. Apparently thinking he got the job done, he lit a victory cigarette, causing the car to burst into flames.

Kemery was able to escape but suffered first and second degree burns. A line of cars around him also caught fire and were heavily damaged.

Detective Sgt. Edward Fitzgerald told Newsday that someone told Kemery that if he saturated the bedbugs with alcohol it would kill them.

It's probably safe to say that he doesn't have bedbugs anymore. P.S. He picked up the rental in, where else, Florida.
