Harry Reid: No regrets over unfounded Mitt Romney accusations

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, who's announced he won't be seeking reelection at the end of his term, has now expressed he has no regrets about floating the notion that then-presidential candidate Mitt Romney hadn't paid income taxes on is considerable wealth.

In his first interview since announcing he would not seek reelection, Reid smiled, shrugged his shoulders and said "He didn't win, did he?," about the claim that Reid made from the Senate floor.

In 2012, the Nevada Democrat said on the Senate floor, "So the word is out that [Romney] has not paid any taxes for 10 years. Let him prove that he has paid taxes, because he hasn't."

After Romney strongly denied it and Reid was criticized for the accusation, Reid said that he had what he called an "extremely credible source," who it was later revealed to be billionaire Jon Huntsman Sr., father of former Utah Governor and Romney rival Jon Huntsman.

Reid was asked about the accusation in the CNN interview, and about the criticism that his attack had been, quote, "McCarthyite."

But Reid was unapologetic, saying, "Well, they can call it whatever they want. Romney didn't win, did he?"
