"Get a kit, have a plan, stay informed!" Kathryn Gonzalez from the American Red Cross says its that simple.
Gonzalez on of several Emergency Management Officials on hand as the City of Orlando officially joing in the nationwide campaign to prepare residents for disasters.
Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer officially proclaiming April 30, 2015 as Orlando PreparAthon day.
"Really there is nobody that should not know when we're going to be impacted by a storm" Dyer said.
The city is the largest to take part in the National campaign and the first municipality in the state of Florida to launch this national program.
There are several apps available for residents to be alerted to severe weather including the News 96.5 app. Just text the word weather to 21232 and you will be the first to be alerted to any severe storm warnings or download it here.
There are other apps available at the Orlando Emergency Management website.
