UCF earns historic, thrilling win over USF, 49-42

ORLANDO, Fla. — “The War on I-4 did not disappoint!” said an exhausted and exhilarated ESPN broadcaster after UCF defeated USF, 49-42, at Spectrum Stadium to gain a berth in the American Athletic Conference title game and complete a perfect 11-0 regular season.

Two years ago, UCF lost every game. The turnaround is the quickest in NCAA Division I football history.

USF, trailing by a point, was able to score a touchdown on an 83-yard pass from Quinton Flowers to Darnell Salomon and a tying two-point conversion with less than two minutes remaining when Flowers found D’Ernest Johnson in the endzone.

UCF’s Mike Hughes then ran back the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown to regain the lead before an electrified sellout crowd. Seconds later, a fumble by a USF receiver sealed the victory for the Knights.

The victory could prove to be bittersweet for UCF’s football program. Unconfirmed reports say that head coach Scott Frost  is either headed to Nebraska or will interview for the Florida head coaching job soon.

Frost said after the game that he is giving his “100 percent” to the team, which prepares to host the conference title game against Memphis.

Stay Frosty, Coach

😏💦
