Freeport, Bahamas — An 85-year-old woman from the Bahamas miraculously survived the flood waters of Hurricane Dorian by clinging to a refrigerator inside her home while floating in an armchair.
The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported that Virginia Mosvold was sitting in the water for three days.
Her daughter, Sissel Johnson, told the paper that she and her husband were unable to lift her mother up into the attic of their flooded home.
She said her husband first tried to make a harness to keep Mosvold in the chair, but at some point the elderly woman ripped it off.
Johnson said they watched her float in the water and cling to the refrigerator, which was wedged into a corner.
Mosvold was rescued from Freeport and flown to South Florida where she is being treated for pneumonia and a leg infection.
“Just by the grace of God, she survived,” Johnson told the newspaper.
