Texas man breaks into city jail after being released, sneaks into courthouse

UNIVERSAL CITY, Texas — A Texas man released from a city jail is accused of returning to the jail and sneaking into a closed courtroom, authorities said.

Andres Madrigal, 29, had been released from the Universal City jail on July 25, Detective Anthony Travis told KSAT. Madrigal had been arrested on minor warrants.

“He told one of the officers that this wasn’t over,” Travis told the television station.

On July 27, police were summoned to City Hall after a break-in was reported. According to surveillance video, police saw a man who matched Madrigal’s description emerging from the men’s restroom, KSAT reported.

Travis told the television station that Madrigal crawled through the ceiling and entered the empty courtroom.

“There were tiles basically hanging down. There was an entire tile missing,” Travis said. “There was a piece of a wall that was cut out,” he said.

According to an arrest affidavit, Madrigal broke into the court’s computer system because the password was hidden under a computer keyboard.

Travis said the city’s building security system will be upgraded.

Meanwhile, Madrigal was released from the Bexar County Jail after posting bail. He is facing felony charges of burglary of a building with intent to commit theft, and computer break of a security system, according to court records.
