Hidden camera catches North Carolina woman poisoning husband, stepson, authorities say

A North Carolina woman was in jail Wednesday after authorities allege she was caught on camera trying to kill her husband and stepson by poisoning them.

Susan Fenyves McNair, 72, of Wilmington, is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of contaminating food or drink with controlled substances, New Hanover County Jail records show.

Wilmington police officials said McNair was arrested Tuesday for trying to poison the men by putting cleaning products and paint primer into their drinks on July 28. The men became seriously ill.

The News & Observer in Raleigh reported that the father and son became suspicious when the son became ill after drinking a beverage McNair had access to. McNair’s husband noted a burning sensation in his mouth when he sipped his own drink a few days later.

Suspecting they were being poisoned, the men placed a hidden camera that allegedly caught McNair in the act, the newspaper reported. They turned the footage over to authorities.

McNair is being held in lieu of $800,000 secured bond, according to police.
