Cracker Barrel to expand alcohol beverage sales to all restaurants

Turns out diners like having booze with their biscuits and gravy.

Cracker Barrel, which tested selling beer and wine earlier this year in some states, will expand alcoholic beverage sales to all locations by the end of next year, restaurant officials said during a Tuesday earnings call, The Motley Fool reported.

The chain of homestyle family restaurants known more for its hash brown casserole and country fried steak will find a permanent place on the menu for mimosas, which were one of the most popular alcoholic beverage offerings, as well as other wine and beer selections.

“Our mimosas have proven to be quite popular in the breakfast and lunch day parts,” said Sandra Cochran, Cracker Barrel’s president and CEO.

The chain started selling alcohol at 20 locations in June as a way to increase revenue lost because of the coronavirus pandemic. Alcohol was soon offered at more than 100 locations, and officials' plan is to have it available at 600 locations in 2021.

Restaurants in Indiana, Mississippi and Virginia are expected to have drinks on the menu in the coming months, Fox News reported. Florida locations, which were some of the first to offer alcoholic beverages, are expected to test seasonal mimosas in the next quarter.
