Orlando, Fla. — After quickly strengthening from a depression to a tropical storm Thursday, Beryl increased into a hurricane Friday morning.
The category one storm has sustained winds of 80 mph and is moving west at 15 mph. As of Friday night, Beryl was about 960 miles east-southeast of the Lesser Antilles.
WFTV Eyewitness News Channel 9 meteorologist Irene sans tells me, "although the storm has organized a bit more than expected it is still on track to be ripped away by very strong wind shear as it enters the Caribbean. It will likely pass the Lesser Antilles Sunday evening into Monday morning as a category one hurricane and then degenerate into a tropical storm or even perhaps a tropical wave."
Also, hurricane hunters are scheduled to fly this system within the next 24-48 hours.. Remember they wouldn't fly this storm while so far out. #Beryl
