Police say Florida father chased down and shot at suspect who stole his car with a child inside

West Palm Beach, Fla — A Florida father may have saved his son’s life after he chased down a man who allegedly stole his car Saturday with a child in the backseat.

West Palm Beach Sheriff investigators have not released the victims identity, but say the man stepped out of his running vehicle to speak to friends Saturday leaving his 6-year-old son in the car.

Deputies say that’s when 29-year-old Lamar Thurman took off with the vehicle.

Dad and friends immediately jumped into another vehicle and chased the suspect even firing shots at the car.

According to a report, at one point the suspect crashed the stolen vehicle, got stuck, freed the car and continued to flee until he crashed a second time.

Thurmond was apprehended after the second crash and taken to the hospital with several gunshot wounds where he remained in critical condition Monday night.

The incident is still under investigation and no charges have been filed.

Deputies say the child was not injured during the incident.
