Monument vandalism bill stuck in Tallahassee; Vets asking why

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A group dedicated to preserving the memories of America’s war heroes is trying to get state lawmakers to increase the penalties for vandalizing such monuments, but apparently is meeting resistance from an Orlando area state senator.

Senator Randolph Bracy, Chairman of the Criminal Justice Committee, has not scheduled it for a hearing since receiving the bill on February 1.

A spokeswoman for a group calling itself "Save their Honor" said hundreds of people have reached out to Bracy, but have not received an explanation.

News 96.5 WDBO also reached out to his office last week and is awaiting a reply.

The state house has passed a similar measure on second reading, but is awaiting action on the senate bill.

The group fears that a lack of action is a signal to veterans that Florida is not supportive of their needs.
