The Carnival Legend was scheduled to sail from Melbourne, Australia to New Caledonia. Witnesses say members of a “big Italian family” were constantly starting trouble during the cruise, picking fights, throwing punches at strangers and at one point, the cruise told passengers to lock themselves in their cabins while they tried to get the brawls under control.
“I was watching the fight and one guy came up to me and said 'Do you want to go too bro?'” said passenger Jarrah Boliltho. "My mum had to drag me away from it all. They were roaming the decks just looking to pick on any Aussie they could find.”
During one fight caught on cellphone video, up to 30 people were throwing fists while security guards step in to try and break it up, taking people to the ground and kicking them. One brawl was caused by a passenger accidentally stepping on another passenger’s flip flop.
“Very violent, they were full-on attacks,” said another witness, who tells CBS News that when the captain was made aware of the situation, he said “What do you want me to do about it - throw them overboard?”
Michael Barsoum was in the middle of proposing to his girlfriend when a violent fight broke out. He stopped to help innocent passengers and was punched in the face trying to keep two girls out of harm’s way.
“That moment is ruined forever now,” said Barsoum.
The family was removed from the ship for their “disruptive behavior” during an unscheduled stop in Eden, New South Wales...one of them giving the cheering passengers the middle finger.
Carnival has apologized and is offering the passengers 25% off their next cruise, which they say isn’t enough.
"I won't be traveling Carnival ever again so a 25 percent off a future cruise in my eyes is unacceptable," Mark Morrison said.
