TIME magazine cover has Trump coming face to face with crying immigrant girl

TIME magazine's latest cover is sure to keep the hotly contested debate going about America's  immigration laws.

The July 2 issue features a photoshopped picture of President Trump looking down at the 2-year-old Honduran girl famously seen crying as her mother is detained at the U.S./Mexico border in McAllen, Texas. The caption: Welcome to America.

Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer John Moore took the viral photo of the girl while riding with U.S. Border Patrol agents.

"This one was tough for me. As soon as it was over, they were put into a van. I had to stop and take deep breaths," Moore told TIME ."All I wanted to do was pick her up. But I couldn't."

TIME chose to combine Moore's picture with one of the president as critics continue to attack the Trump administration over parents and their children being separated for crossing into the U.S. illegally. On Wednesday, President Trump reversed that policy, allowing families to stay together, while reaffirming that 'zero tolerance' for undocumented immigrants is still in place.

“Republicans  want security and insist on security for our country. And we will have that. At the same time, we have compassion. We want to keep families together. It’s very important,” Trump said on Wednesday.

More than 2,000 children have been taken to detention centers within the last six weeks.
