PICTURE: Girl straddles dead shark washed up on beach

A teenager has been photographed straddling what appears to be a dead shark that washed up on Marcoola Beach in Australia.

Patrick Williams from the Sunshine Coast Daily reports that the near 10-foot long shark was found dead earlier this week and many locals came to check it out for themselves. Some kept their distance...others not so much. The beachgoer was snapped on top of the shark with a dog standing close by.

Kate Willson, curator with Underwater World Sea Life Mooloolaba,  is now warning others to not touch any sharks that may wash up on Sunshine Coast beaches. Although the shark may appear dead,  it may actually still be alive.

Shark migration season is in March and April. Officials say it may be possible the shark was migrating from New South Wales and possibly got washed onto the beach in high tide and got stuck in the sand.
