Orange County deputy is suspended for excessive force

Orange County deputy Ayler Cruz was suspended for two weeks without pay after an investigation determined he violated policy when he used his Taser unnecessarily during an arrest, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Body-cam video shows Cruz arriving at the scene on Ridge Ppoint Drive and immediately drawing his Taser after exiting his patrol car.

Moments later, Cruz deployed the Taser on 25-year-old Tevion Dickson.

Sheriff John Mina says deputies must be held to the highest ethical standards.

“We are committed to serving this community with integrity and ensuring that any alleged misconduct is thoroughly investigated and that the results of that investigation are made public,” Mina said in a statement.
