Orange County deputies urge residents to use ‘Burglar Boxes’ to prevent holiday crime

ORLANDO, FLORIDA — In an effort to help Central Florida residents avoid becoming victims of holiday burglaries, several ‘burglar boxes’ have been set up where residents can dispose of their cardboard boxes instead of leaving them on the curb until trash day.

"This practice is not only good for the environment but it prevents the opportunity for criminals to learn what new items are available in your home," said Master Deputy Barbara Smith-Herron in a message on Nextdoor. "Criminals are known to look at the product boxes left curbside for disposal as potential target homes to burglarize."


To drop off your boxes, look for the green and yellow dumpster bearing the logo "Burglary Box" at one of the designated drop off locations listed below: 

*Orange County Sheriff's Office Substation
