A Orange County corrections officer is suspended for emailing inmates personal information

Orange County, Fla. — No matter what crime may have landed someone  in jail, personal information for all inmates is expected to be protected.

A computer system at the Orange County Jail flagged officer Tamaine Miller for sending out thousands of non-work-related emails to his wife.

A follow-up investigation showed the documents emailed by Miller included inmate’s Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers and medical information protected by HIPAA. The investigation also showed that officer Miller emailed information not only to his wife, but to his sister and to himself.

Miller told investigators he just wanted to know what the inmates were in for, and he wanted his wife to know the dangers of the world.

Officer Miller has been suspended for two week without pay.
