Ocala man planned to bomb Target stores to make the company's stock plummet

A Marion County man already in trouble with the law, is accused of conspiring to bomb Target stores to make the price of the retailers stock drop.

Federal investigators said Mark Barnett, 48, of Ocala offered a relative $10,000 to place homemade bombs in Target stores along the east coast..

According to a criminal complaint, the relative whose name has not been released received 10 homemade bombs disguised in food packaging, then called a probation officer, who called police.

Investigators used the person whom Barnett asked to do the job to get more information about Barnett’s plans.  The source even used a recording device for a meeting on Tuesday.

When investigators searched Barnett’s home, they said they found rocket ignitors, M-5000 explosives and battery sources for the devices.

According to investigators, Barnett wanted to make Target stock plummet, so he could buy it cheap.

Barnett is already on probation and wearing a court-ordered GPS monitor for a number of felony offenses,  is now faces a decade in prison on charges of possession of a firearm affecting commerce by a previously convicted felon.
