New active shooter training simulator debuts in Daytona Beach

Daytona Beach, Fla. — The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is showing off its newest piece of training technology for deputies.

The VirTra simulator is a 5-screen, 300-degree simulator that allows deputies to train for hundreds of possible situations.

That can include active shooters, ambushes, de-escalation scenarios and other high-stress incidents.

It cost the department $181,000, with $125,000 funded by a grant and the remainder paid out of drug forfeiture funds.
