Poll: Floridians are very happy with Governor Ron DeSantis

Ron DeSantis has the highest approval rating among Florida voters for a governor in a decade, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday.

By a margin of 59-17 percent, Florida voters approve of the job DeSantis is doing.

Since taking office in January, DeSantis has made protecting Florida’s water and environment a top priority, replacing the entire Florida Water Management District Board and signing an executive order to spend $2.5 billion on Everglades restoration and water quality.

Within days of taking office, he suspended Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel over his department's response to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting last year.  On the same day, Desantis granted pardons to the Groveland Four.

Since January, DeSantis has appointed three new justices to the Florida Supreme Court, created a Chief Science Officer as well as an office of coastal protection and resilience.

All of these moves have won DeSantis a lot of fans in the Sunshine State and Quinnipiac’s poll results show that.

News 96.5 WDBO spoke with Quinnipiac’s assistant director of polls, Peter Brown who says DeSantis’ popularity extends well beyond his own party.

“Mr. DeSantis is doing so well that he is also carrying Democratic voters.  That’s almost unheard of.  Mr. DeSantis has a 42-29 percent lead among Democrats,” said Brown.

Quinnipiac University also polled Florida voters on several issues like the environment, gun control and immigration.

They also asked Florida voters about U.S. Senator Marco Rubio and U.S. Senator Rick Scott.
