Lake Highland Prep students modify toy cars to help toddlers with mobility challenges

Orlando, Fla. — Most students aren't usually in school on a Saturday. However, some students from Lake Highland Prep and UCF, along with over 90 volunteers decided to spend their day helping out toddlers with limited mobility.

With their knowledge and use of power tools, they teamed up with UCF's Go Baby Go! program to acquire and modify 5 ride on toy cars for the five families and their children. Some of these modifications included a button to start and go instead of a foot pedal, along with extra lumbar support and harnesses to make sure they don't fall off.

The excited parents even got to join in on the fun, helping to put decorations on the cars. From Spider-man to Mickey Mouse and even bears, each toy car was custom designed by the children and their parents so that they could make it their own.

UCF's Go Baby Go! program designs low teach and affordable solutions for toddlers with disabilities to gain independence. The group and students hope to continue this event and present it on an annual basis.
