Kissimmee Police hold community BBQ to honor fallen officers Matthew Baxter and Sergeant Sam Howard

Kissimmee, Fla. — The Kissimmee Police Department is paying tribute to two of its fallen officers, Officer Matthew Baxter and Sergeant Sam Howard with a free community barbecue Saturday afternoon.

Officers Sam Howard and Matthew Baxter were fatally shot while responding to a suspicious activity report in an area known for drug use. Saturday marks one year since the day their lives were taken in the line of duty.

The event is being promoted as a celebration of life, as well as a thank you to the community for the love and support during the months following the tragedy.

It will be held at the Kissimmee Lakefront park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be entertainment, games, and of course, food. Parking will be in the city's parking garage located near the Civic Center, County lot near the Courthouse and the County garage.
