Here’s why the warming arctic poles affects the weather in the United States

Orlando, Fla. — Scientists, lawmakers and philanthropists gathered at UCF Thursday  to find solutions to global climate change.

One presentation from Dr. Marshall Shepherd, Director of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Georgia, focused on the affect the warming arctic poles has on weather.

He says it makes it more extreme.

“As the arctic warms, we now are decreasing the difference in temperature between the tropics and the poles. So if we are relaxing that difference in temperature, the jet stream is becoming more wavy,” Shepherd said, who also hosts "Weather Geeks", on the Weather Channel.
