Cape Canaveral, Fla. — SpaceX completed it's first rocket launch of 2020 Monday night as it sent a Falcon 9 rocket into space from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.
The launch originally schedule for Friday night, is the company's third Starlink satellite mission.
With a payload of 60 Starlink satellites, the rocket launched as scheduled at 9:19 p.m. Spacex made history again as this launch also marked the inaugural launch of the newly created U.S. Space Force.
The 45th Space Wing, headquartered at Patrick Air Force Base, oversees the preparation and launching of U.S. government and commercial satellites from Cape Canaveral. It is one of five Air Force space wings that have been assigned to the U.S. Space Force, when President Trump signed the National Defense Authorization Act that created the U.S. Space Force as the sixth branch of the armed forces.
The company hopes to eventually have thousands of satellites in orbit that would provide Internet services around the world.
