Disney to combat coronavirus with new guidelines, training

BAY LAKE, Fla. — As Florida continues to pick up Covid-19 cases, Disney Parks' Chief Medical Officer Dr. Pamela Hymel issued a statement updating their plan to keep guests safe.

“[The virus] has become a more widespread concern. . ,” Hymel said, “we are carefully monitoring the evolving coronavirus situation and are in regular contact with health agencies for information and guidance.”

“Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort are welcoming guests as usual and we continue to implement preventative measures in line with the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other health agencies,” Hymel said.

Dr. Hymel’s message contains a list of the parks’ protocols moving forward-

  • Training for cast members, with ongoing reinforcement on a regular basis.
  • Defined cycles for frequent cleaning and disinfection of targeted areas.
  • Easy access to handwashing facilities and hand sanitizers.
  • Quick response to spills, trash, and other situations.
  • End of day sanitation procedures for restroom, kitchen, and other facilities.
  • Frequent cleaning and "wash down" of outdoor locations, including walkways and queues.

As always, folks should take preventative measures on their own accord, washing their hands often for at least 20 seconds and following “cough etiquette,” more loosely described as staying home when you feel ill and generally keeping to yourself if you become sick.

The latest state statistics on the coronavirus at the time of this report confirm 12 positive cases in Florida, two deaths, and 108 pending test results.
