Brevard County prescribed burn brings heavy smoke to Orange County

Orlando, Fla. — A prescribed burn near Merritt Island brought heavy smoke into Orange County during Tuesday's afternoon rush hour, according to Orange County Fire Rescue.

News 96.5 WDBO was flooded with phone calls and open mic's via our APP, with questions and concerns about the smoke.

Orange County Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles told Orlando's Evening News  that the agency had also received numerous 911 calls about the smoke, especially in south east Orlando.  He said the smoke was being pushed in from a prescribed burn near Merritt Island.

Jachles cautioned young children and the elderly to stay inside because they are more susceptible to the smoke.
