The 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season is officially underway and the National Hurricane Center says we can expect a busy season this year.
One of the Hurricane Center’s senior hurricane specialists, Dan Brown, spoke to News 96.5 WDBO about the season’s forecast and what we can expect in the coming months.
“NOAA’s seaonal forecast is calling for an above normal season with 13-19 named storms,” said Brown.
Even though we are on day one of the season, there have already been two named storms.
Today is June 1st and hurricane season is off to a busy start! A disturbance over the Yucatan Peninsula has a high (80%) chance of becoming a tropical depression during the next couple of days when it moves over the Bay of Campeche. More: https://t.co/tW4KeGdBFb pic.twitter.com/8BFC0iYYFO

Brown is quick to point out it only takes one major storm to devastate a community and we should prepare for a hurricane before one is looming.
“We should make sure we have those supplies at hand, and if you don’t have them, start getting those over the next few weeks so we can be prepared by the time we get to the more active time of the season, said Brown.
