Gainesville, Fla. — Police in Gainesville are trying to determine if jars of preserved human remains may be part of university research.
WCJB reports the remains were discovered under the floorboards of a home in North West Gainesville during an inspection of the house's foundation.
The home had been owned by Dr. Ronald A. Baughmann, a former researcher at the University of Florida.
Dr. Baughmann published several studies in the 1970's and '80's including two regarding canker sores and one on the Cytobrush Plus cell collector, something similar to a tongue depressor.
These studies may be important to the investigation as detectives are now working to see if the body parts might be related to the professors research.
Some of the jars dated back more than 50 years and contained human tongues, according to WCJB.
