GOP faces backlash after their St. Patty's Day tweet burn of 'Irishman' Beto O'Rourke

The GOP’s official Twitter account took advantage of the St. Patrick’s Day holiday to take a swing at Beto O’Rourke.

The account photo shopped a cartoon green shamrock hat on the mug shot of O’Rourke from his 1988 arrest for drinking and drinking, using the caption, “On this St. Paddy's Day, a special message from noted Irishman Robert Francis O'Rourke," and “please drink responsibly.”

Almost immediately, criticism began replying to the GOP’s tweet.

Republican Rep. Justin Amash of Michigan tweeted, "Do better, @GOP. Be better," while Republican strategist John Weaver called the tweet "vile."

Meanwhile, O'Rourke has told reporters that there is nothing in his past he hasn't already revealed that could come back to hurt his run for office.
