A photo of a Detroit, Michigan college student has gone viral after posting his celebratory graduation picture to Twitter....but there’s A LOT more to this story.
Daivon Reeder will officially graduate from Eastern Michigan University on Saturday with a degree in criminal justice and military science...an accomplishment his stepdad said he would never achieve.
“My stepdad told me it was pointless to go to orientation, I wasn’t going to graduate....4 years later, he’s in jail and I’m well.....” tweeted Reeder, proudly wearing his cap and gown, smiling from ear to ear.
The photo has been retweeted more than 60,000 times. Reeder tells Buzzfeed News that he appreciates the support and kind words from strangers who have heard his story.
"I'm just a first generation college kid from Detroit trying to beat the odds. I guess people can relate to a humble beginning."
