Woman hospitalized after being shot by Ocoee police officer

A woman was hospitalized after a confrontation with a police officer late Friday night that ended in gunfire.

According to Ocoee police, a woman with a history of mental issues and drug problems came to a Burger King restaurant on Silver Star Road to talk to a relative.

Police said that the woman became agitated and there was a disturbance.

According to police, an employee of the restaurant noticed that the woman had a gun and a call was made to 911.

Police said the caller suggested that a robbery could be in progress.

When an Ocoee officer arrived and ordered the woman to drop the gun she pointed the gun at the officer, who then shot her.

Police said the woman's injuries don't appear to be life-threatening. There were no other injuries reported in the incident.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the officer's use of force.
