Woman claims Uber charged her $12K for a 7-mile car ride

Uber is making headlines today for charging a New York woman thousands of dollars for what she called a "ride from hell."

The ride happened on March 28, and tree weeks later, the woman got a bill she was not expecting.

Jamie Hessel told the New York's PIX 11 that her 7-mile car ride last month took 35 minutes because the driver was distracted and began ignoring the GPS unit in his vehicle.

Hessel claims, “He was on his phone making calls, taking calls, checking his voicemail.” She left Uber a comment and says Uber offered her a credit.

“Uber got back to me and they’re just like oh you know we feel bad, we’re going to issue a $15 r credit and I was just like oh that’s great, thank you so much, but they didn’t give me the credit and three weeks later I contacted them, and I get an email saying I owe them $16,000 and this was yesterday and I was kind of thrown off a little bit,” said Hessel.

A representative for Uber told PIX 11 that once they learned of the discrepancy, Wessel's money was refunded and the massive bill was waived.
