New York, NY —

Pop singer Lady Gaga altered the lyrics of the US National Anthem Friday night at a gay pride parade in New York City.

Clutching a rainbow gay pride flag, Gaga sang "Flag of pride yet wave..."

She concluded the anthem with "O'er the land of the free and the home for the gay."

Lady Gaga, born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, was born and raised in New York City.

Gaga's WikiPedia entry shows the origin of Gaga's support of and from the gay community:

Gaga is an outspoken activist for LGBT rights worldwide. She attributes much of her early success as a mainstream artist to her gay fans and is considered a gay icon.

Early in her career she had difficulty getting radio airplay, and stated, "The turning point for me was the gay community."

The Star Spangled Banner - US National Anthem lyrics:

Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,

What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming?

Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight,

O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming?

And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,

Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.

O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave

O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
