Mark Wiseman was checking out a washout in a drainage pipe along Kaley Avenue on Tuesday when a small black critter, "all teeth," came out and momentarily startled him.
Until he saw the tail wagging.
His heart melted and he now owns a little black mixed breed female puppy he's named "Kaley."
The pup spends the day in his F-DOT office, in a pen with toys and Wiseman said there's sometimes a line of co-workers at his door who want to visit. "She's been adopted by everyone in the building," he said.
Kaley has been checked out by the vet and got some medicine for hookworm and fleas.
She's got a few nicks on her head, but is doing fine. Wiseman has introduced Kaley to his Shih-Tzu mix at home and said they are quickly getting along.
He called the discovery "a really nice diversion" from his daily work of problem-solving.
