Teen suspended for using fake bombs to ask girl to prom

A Washington teenager who strapped fake bombs to his chest during a stunt to ask a girl to prom has been suspended for 5 days.

Ibrahim Ahmad, 18, will not be allowed to attend La Center High School's dance on Saturday due to the punishment.

The teen took paper towel tubes, painted them red to make them look like explosives, then attached some wires and fastened them to a paintball vest. During lunchtime, Ahmad stood up in front of the cafeteria with a sign that read: 'I kno it's A little Late, But I'm kinda...THE BOMB! Rilea, Will U Be My Date To Prom?'

Ahmad says he was just trying to be funny and get the girl's attention.

"I'm Middle Eastern, and I thought the bomb was kind of funny and clever. I wasn't wearing the vest for more than, like 20 seconds. I asked her, took a picture, took it off, and then the school got upset," Ahmad tells

.

Superintendent Mark Mansell says it was just blatant disrespect.

"The student knew that the principal wouldn't support this and he went ahead and did it anyway."

Ahad says the 'promposal' was all in good fun. The couple will go to dinner together instead.
