Southwest sued for $49K after carry-on bag falls on man

A man is suing Southwest Airlines for $49,000 after a piece of carry-on luggage fell from the overhead bin and clobbered him.

Jerry Reinhardt filed the lawsuit in Multnomah County Circuit Court. He says he was on a plane at Portland International Airport going to Las Vegas when a flight attendant came over to assist another passenger trying to put a large suitcase into the overhead bin. That's when the luggage fell on him, causing him to suffer a compressed disc.

Reinhardt claims in his lawsuit that the airline should've trained the attendant properly and should not allow a large bag on the plane as a carry-on.

According to the Oregonian, Reinhardt is asking for $10,000 for medical expenses, $5,000 for lost income, and $34,000 in pain and suffering.
