Some commuters moving downtown to avoid Ultimate I-4 Project

Full-blown construction on the Ultimate Interstate 4 Project hasn't officially begun, but many who drive I-4 said they've already had enough of the traffic.

Some families said they're moving as a result of all the traffic, which could have a significant impact on downtown Orlando.

"The commute has gotten to be impossible," said real estate agent Barry Miller.

Miller said he wants out of the south west Orlando suburb where he's lived for almost 30 years, because the drive that used to take him 20 minutes has already doubled.

"I am running into this traffic problem now and it's only going to get worse and worse and worse over the next few months," he said. "I want to get ahead of the game and move downtown."

Most I-4 drivers know the Ultimate Project will mean more time on the road and less time at home.

Jeremy Drosin of Ubanista Brokers specializes in downtown living and has had almost a dozen calls where people have asked to relocate closer their downtown office building.

"There is a bit of a panic button which is being hit at this point," he said. "They are already anticipating the nightmare of I-4. That is driving a bit of a frenzy."

That frenzy could cause an economic boost translating into higher prices and more inventory downtown.

"It would increase the need for more retail, more boutiques, more restaurants," said Drosin. "It would definitely drive the economy."
