5 hospitalized after crash sends vehicle into auto repair building

Several people were hospitalized after a crash sent two vehicles into the parking lot of an automotive repair business Thursday night.

One of the vehicles hit the building belonging to Scott's Automotive Center on Edgewater Driver near Mott Avenue.

The accident happened around 10 p.m.

According to Florida Highway Patrol troopers, the driver of an SUV was driving west on Edgewater Drive when the driver, Joseph Salustro, 23, of Orlando, lost control as he crossed a set of railroad tracks.

Troopers said the SUV struck the rear of a  minivan that was stopped at the intersection.

Toopers said the force of the impact caused the the the minivan, driven by Christopher Greaney, 23, of Orlando and the SUV through a wooden privacy fence and into the parlking lot of the auto repair shop.

According to troopers, the SUV struck the building.

Reports indicated that as many as five people were injured and that four were trapped in vehicles at one point.

Troopers said Salustro and three passengers from his vehicle were transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center. All four were reported to be in serious condition when they were transported.

Greaney, who was the only one in his vehicle, was transported to ORMC as well, also in serious condition.

Troopers said a blood sample was taken from Salustro.

They said charges are pending.
