Roof collapses under partying Cal Poly students

Nine Cal Poly students were injured after the roof collapsed under their weight while celebrating something called "St. Fratty's Day."

"Coordinated through social media, several thousand college-aged young men and women poured into the residential neighborhood. Many of the revelers possessed alcoholic beverages and were wearing green clothing consistent with a pre-St. Patrick’s Day celebration," a San Luis Obispo city news release said.

SLO police began receiving calls from neighbors near the scene just before 4:45 Saturday morning.  Officers responding to the neighborhood began writing citations to those under the age of 21 found with alcohol, and to party hosts for violations of the city noise ordinance.

The roof collapsed at 6:21 a.m.  Video shows young people crowded onto other roofs in the neighborhood as the garage caved in.  Photos show several individuals holding up sides of the garage as an estimated 30 to 40 people who were on the roof climbed out.
