Orange County Sheriff's Office unveils new chase helicopter

The Orange County Sheriff's Office has a new weapon in its crime-fighting arsenal.

Earlier this month, Orange County sheriff Jerry Demings officially introduced central Florida to their newest helicopter, dubbed "Chase 3."

The brand new Bell 206 offers upgrades in technology, including better cameras, communication equipment and tracking capabilities.

Lt. Nate Van Ness with the O.C.S.O. Aviation Section says the new helicopter has the ability to, "to find LoJack or a downed aircraft beacon, or someone that is a person at risk, like an autistic child or an Alzheimer's patient who's wearing one of these radio beacons."

"We can actually see a little cone on the map of where that signal is and we can fly right to it," said Van Ness.

In addition to chasing suspects, the new helicopter will be used to assist firefighters battling brush fires.
