New records suggest Oviedo woman was insane when she killed daughter

News 96.5 uncovered new records that say an Oviedo woman was insane when she killed her daughter.

Last year, detectives said Sujatha Guduru, 45, shot and killed her 17-year-old daughter, Chetana.

Records show the defense's medical expert found "the defendant was insane" when she pulled the trigger, but prosecutors have not finished their report.

News 96.5 read through their new motion, which shows the state's experts already reviewed Guduru's medical records, but now they want to examine her.

"What this defendant is going to need is at least one of these state psychiatrists to agree with the defense psychiatrists that she was insane at the time of the commission of this offense to have any shot with a jury," said WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer.

Last year, Channel 9 broke the story when Guduru's attorney said his client suffered a downward spiral after she witnessed a security guard get murdered while she was working at a bank years ago in Texas.

Investigators said after Guduru shot her daughter, she turned the gun on herself but survived.

After the shooting, Guduru's brother told the detectives his sister was seeing a psychiatrist for depression.
