Mom thankful EMTs arrived at home to help deliver baby

EMTs respond to all types of calls and put their various training to good use saving lives. They aren’t often called to help bring a life into the world, but that’s what happened for a crew from Station 72.

"Very memorable," said Lt. Tony Renta. "I think it’ll be very memorable for this entire family."

Bryan and Kelly Rogers' daughter, Annastyn, unexpectedly came in the middle of the night six weeks ago, and Kelly said she had no heads up or symptoms to warn her.

"My OB said you’d have a fast delivery, but we didn’t expect it to be 30 minutes start to finish," she said.

Kelly said she and her husband knew they wouldn’t be able to make it to the hospital and probably would’ve ended up having Annastyn along the side of the road if they tried.

They called 911 and the EMTs arrived to help deliver the baby, putting their rarely used training to use.

"This was one of the ones that was present in front of us," said Renta. "Our training was remembered and we executed that as was needed. To see her, it’s amazing."

Now, six weeks later with mom and baby healthy and well and the shock of a home delivery having subsided, the Rogers said they’re staying in touch with the EMTs who unexpectedly touched their lives in a big way.

"Maybe the fire truck can come to the first birthday party," Kelly said with a laugh.
