Woman says teen with gun went to Leesburg HS to kill her son

An Apopka teenager was taken into custody shortly after walking into Leesburg High School with a gun and four rounds of ammunition early Wednesday afternoon.

School officials said the gun wasn’t loaded but the 16-year-old, who wasn’t a student at the school, had the bullets in his pocket.

The mother of a student who was the alleged target said the teen came from Apopka to kill her son.

She said her son found out that the teen was in the building with a gun, so he alerted administrators, and within minutes the intruder was under arrest.

Authorities have not said why the teen might have been targeting the student.

The deputy found a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver on the teen, as well as hollow-point bullets in his pockets. The revolver was determined to be stolen, authorities said.

During the investigation, authorities determined the teen had been reported missing from the Apopka area.

The teen was taken into custody and will be booked into the Lake County Jail for possession of a firearm on school grounds.

Authorities said the youth is currently being investigated for other crimes.

School officials said there will be extra deputies on campus Thursday morning.
