Grandstands coming down this week at Daytona Intl Speedway

This morning, a large crane started to disassemble the iconic Sprint Tower at Daytona International Speedway, as part of the multi-million dollar rebuilding project called DAYTONA RISING.

Earlier this week, crews began taking down the grandstand on the backstretch of the 2.5 mile tri-oval track. Those stands wil be taken to another NASCAR track and reassembled for use.

By moving all seating to the frontstretch, all attendees will now have the opportunity to enjoy a full race day experience including pre-race ceremonies, pit road action and the facility’s new amenities.

Beginning in January 2016, Daytona International Speedway will feature approximately 101,000 permanent, wider and more comfortable seats, according to a news release from the International Speedway Corporation.

The demolition of the Sprint Tower is expected to take 30 days.
