Family thanks Lake County firefighter for saving drowning 4-year-old

A Lake County firefighter was lounging on vacation when he spotted a 4-year-old girl at the bottom of a pool and jumped in to save her life, Channel 9 has learned.

Firefighter and EMT Shannon Bush was relaxing at the same Orlando resort pool last week when he heard somebody scream, "Call 911!"

Taylor Thomas was unresponsive at the bottom of pool.

"I guess it just clicked in. I mean, thank God for training," said Bush. "I didn't hesitate. Nobody hesitated. I mean, we all jumped in and started working."

Several minutes of CPR later and water flowed from Taylor's lungs out her mouth. She came to a few minutes later.

On Friday, Taylor's mother thanked Bush for saving her daughter.

"Forever me and my family are going to be grateful and there's not a day that's going to go by that we don't thank him for being there at the right place at the right time," said Thomas.

Taylor's family said they're still trying to piece together how everything unfolded.

"When I seen him in action before I even knew that he was a firefighter, that he had to be someone because of the good care  he took care of her, like she was one of his own," said Andrea Thomas. "For me and my family, I just want to say thank you and I also want to thank God for putting him in that place."

Andrea Thomas said he daughter is doing well and even wanted to get back in the pool the next day.

Lake County Fire Rescue said 10 people die every day in the U.S. from drowning. On average, two of those deaths are children under 14, they said.
